But that doesn’t change the fact that there is still information out there that contradicts your belief, it’s just that you’re (or your brain, rather) has chosen not to notice it.
So the question becomes: Is this a good thing or a bad thing? That depends. Are your current beliefs making you happy?
If they are, great! No reason to change them. Keep doing what you’re doing.
But if your beliefs are not making you happy, then it’s time to give yourself permission to be wrong (for all the right reasons).
But if your beliefs are not making you happy, then it’s time to give yourself permission to be wrong (for all the right reasons).
Here’s how to intentionally shift your beliefs in 3 steps:
- Identify which beliefs are making you unhappy.
- What would you like to believe instead?
- Start looking for “proof” that your new belief is true.
For example, if your old belief was that the world is going to hell in a handbasket, try avoiding the news for a week or two. Instead, subscribe to positive news sites like the goodnewsnetwork, or dailygood.org and as you’re out in public, start to look for people performing good deeds or offering kind gestures like a smile, a helping hand or letting a car turn ahead of them in traffic.
